How transplant is better than dialysis
Dialysis means filtration of blood to remove toxic contents from body. Patients require dialysis 2 or 3 times in a week. Patients also require supplements like iron injection, calcium drug and blood transfusion, While patient is on dialysis has restriction on water intake& fruits and certain food items.
Dialysis has risk of blood infection After transplant patients live normal life, there are no any fluid or food restriction. Person can do normal routine and heavy works. He need regular medicine and follow up.
Who can donate Kidney
Initial requirement for transplant is to find donor who can provide healthy kidney. In India there are some government norms for donor, so donor should be in your blood relation or husband and wife, no one except these can be donor. But if patient have availability of legal donor then undoubtedly transplant will be the better option over the dialysis.
A person between age of 18 to 60 years with no medical problem and blood related family member can donate kidney to his/her relatives. In extended criteria we can accept kidney from elderly person or hypertensive on single drug with no end organ dysinfection.
Transplant Operations/ Surgeries:
We remove kidney from donor by laparoscopic methods due to which donor has fast recovery & minimal pain. Donor can resume his activity from next day from operation. In recipients surgeries kidney is placed in right lower abdomen. Old damaged kidney are not removed as routine. Surgeries take 4 to 5 hrs for operative time and patient can go after 7 days of operation.
